A running record of what is happening at the wheel, in the glaze lab, and around the kiln. Each entry marks a small moment in the life of the studio.
Unloaded the kiln this morning. The matte sage glaze settled exactly as we hoped on the breakfast bowls. A few pieces show subtle iron speckling near the foot — those will go to the seconds shelf rather than the main release.
Mixed a small batch with extra iron oxide and applied it to three test vases. The surface breaks nicely over the ribbed texture, but the speckle is heavier than intended. Adjusting the soak time for the next round.
Twelve hand-thrown vases with a raw clay foot and cream matte interior are ready. Each piece is numbered and signed. The full set sold through in two days; a waiting list is open for the next batch.
Hosted a small group of collectors and curious neighbors. We walked through centering, pulling walls, and trimming a foot ring. Several attendees tried their hand at the wheel — a few bowls survived the experience.
The matte surface is durable, but dishwasher detergents can gradually dull the texture. A quick rinse with warm water and a soft sponge keeps the finish intact. Full care notes are included with every order.
